#NotJustPretty

Meet The Woman Who Lead The Charge

#NotJustPretty is an exciting 3-zoom series (90 min. each)  that honors artists from around the world who identify as women. This program, sponsored by Broken Spine Arts and hosted by Karen Pierce Gonzalez is about refusing to let women’s creativity be reduced or silenced. It's meant to amplify women's  voices in all their diversity, complexity, and defiance, and to celebrate their creative creative work: poetry, art, film, song, and more.
What they do and how they do it challenges the stories that have held women back  and offer new ways of seeing themselves and the world. Together, they embody what #NotJustPretty stands for: resilience, imagination, and truth.  More

Zoom 2 November 8 #NotJustPretty Poets and Artist

Phynne-Belle: I'm drawn to sharing poems that traverse distinct eras of my life, illuminating the intersecting struggles that women, particularly those in marginalized groups, face daily.
Deborah C. Segal: Readers owe the writer nothing. I write because I must, because it feels like being alive when I write. Stories, myths, and reflections, put on paper, give me a sense of purpose, a calling.
Sylvia Van Nooten: My creativity is a rebellion against cultural pressure to conform and behave. Each piece is  from my real self, allowing me to remember my capacity for joy.

Mini Feature Heather Flescher:  It was very important to me to write accurately and authentically, out of respect for myself, my friends, and the many trans people who share similar experiences.
Rusty Rose, Lucy Heuschen, Jenny Wong
